I was in the middle of a print job and the color ink cartridge ran out of ink. I stopped the printer by pulling out the paper and changed the cartridge. I now get a message that the ink cartridge should be pulled and reinstalled. I tried a second cartridge and am getting the same error message. I pulled the tape, I didn't touch any of the copper or places where the ink comes out. I clicked it in. I have changed many cartridges (first time for changing this color cartridge though--new printer) and have never received this message before.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
I understand that you have an HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer. I read that you replaced the color ink cartridge because it ran out of ink. But the printer displays an error saying "the ink cartridge should be pulled and reinstalled". You have again installed another color cartridge and the error persists. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.
The cartridges seem to be fine because both color cartridges cannot have the same issue. Instead, we need to check the printer.
May I know if these are original HP ink cartridges or refilled cartridges?
Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
- Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
Please perform the steps as described in detail from this HP article. These steps help in fixing various ink cartridge related issues.
NOTE: You may perform step 2 to step 5 only.
Finally, you may also perform a firmware update on your printer. The printer needs to be restarted after the firmware update is successfully installed.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to let me know how it goes. Good luck! 🙂

I have a 5740 series. I have changed the ink cartridge and repeatedly get the following message:
Ink Cartridge Problem
Remove and reinstall the indicated ink cartridge, making sure it is correctly installed, and then touch OK.
I have removed and replaced the ink cartridge many times. I have turned off the printer, unplugged everything, followed the steps you laid out in the previous email to no avail. Please help.
Thanks
