Hi, I was recently using a LaserJet Pro 200 Color M251mw with 5x7 paper for a project but unfortunately had an issue with the printer and needed to buy another printer asap. Short on time and availability of laser printers, I bought a Color LaserJet Pro MFP 330cdw.
Got the printer setup, updated with firmware, got the latest drivers, and printed test pages with 8.5x11 paper. However, when trying to print my 5x7 (grayscale) file I was left with the following printed on the paper:
PCL XL error
Subsystem: Kernel
Error: IllegalOperationSequence
Operator: setColorSpace
Position: 3
I am not sure how a custom paper relates to setColorSpace. Additionally, I am not sure why the printer doesn't recognize 5x7 paper. I tried setting manually the paper size on the printer (setting to custom) but it still expects 8.5x11. My computer has the printer setting for 5x7 since I am using the same setting as the old printer.
Also attempted printing the same file on a freshly installed windows 11 OS computer, and the same issue remains for 5x7. However, printing on a Linux Ubuntu 20.04 OS, I was able to printer the file without issues.
For both windows system, I am using Adobe Reader to print. Also tried using Google Chrome browser's PDF viewer for printing but only had issues with the 5x7 file. For Linux, I only used Google Chrome browser's PDF viewer for printing.
I think this is a driver issue with window 11 (using HP Smart Universal Printing). Could someone provide guidance on this issue?

Please confirm the model number and the driver that you are using. Most newer models are designed to be used with HP Smart Universal Printer Driver or the HP Smart App. Use of older drivers can cause unexpected issues.
