running Linux mint. Printer was working fine but now power light constantly blinking. Open cover to remove a cartridge and the carriage will not move. It will move if you push the power button but will not stop where you can remove a cartridge. I had to unplug the printer remove one cartridge put it back in the same way try the other cartridge but the light continues to blink. Print and scan doctor will not work in Linux. I am thinking I will have to install windows as a virtual machine so I can us print and scan doctor. Does anyone have a simpler solution?

Solved. I pushed the power button to get the carriage to move and unplugged it when the carriage was at a point where the cartridges could be removed. I replaced both cartridges at the same time and it returned to normal. Why was the printer rejecting both cartridges?

Hi @JB22B,

Thank you for your response,

The HP DeskJet D1520 printer rejecting both cartridges could have been due to several possible factors.

  • Cartridge Positioning or Poor Contact: If the cartridges were not properly seated in their respective slots or the contacts were dirty, the printer may have failed to recognize them. The carriage movement you initiated likely helped to reset the position, allowing the printer to reestablish a proper connection.
  • Ink Cartridge Protection Mechanism: Some printers have built-in mechanisms to protect against counterfeit or damaged cartridges. If either cartridge was flagged as being incompatible or problematic, the printer could reject them. Replacing both cartridges simultaneously might have reset the printer's recognition process.
  • Printer Firmware Glitch: Printers can occasionally experience software or firmware glitches that prevent them from detecting cartridges correctly. A reset or removal of the cartridges followed by a restart of the printer can help resolve such issues.
  • Cartridge Expiration or Damage: If the cartridges were old, expired, or physically damaged, they might have failed to work properly. Replacing them with fresh ones would naturally fix this issue.

In your case, pushing the power button to allow manual movement of the carriage and replacing both cartridges seemed to resolve the problem. This suggests that the issue was likely related to the cartridge connection or the printer's temporary error in recognizing the cartridges.

Is there anything else that I can help you with today?
