HP DeskJet 2620 Printer
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Since removing my USB leads, a new additional, wireless network has appeared on my "Connected to" wireless network icon in bottom RH corner in System Tray. It is named "DIRECT-90-HP DeskJet 2600 series (No internet access).

What should I understand about this newly introduced HP connection, please?

The PC appears to be connected to BTHub6-QJ53 as it always was before the change. The PC works well, also internet.

I have enrolled for HP Instant Ink recently but have not installed new "Welcome" special inkjet cartridges because still using my 304XL, -  purchased some time ago.

You can turn wifi direct off, press and hold the Wireless button and the Resume button together for three seconds.

Hope this helps.

Hi @KennethWheatley,

DIRECT-90-HP DeskJet 2600 series (No internet access). is WiFi Direct connection.

To assist better -

What is the status of the wireless light on the printer, steady or blinking?

I would like to know, is your router set to work on 2.4 GHz network or 5 GHz network band?

Let me know!

Dear Jay-G24 (HP Support Agent) - you ask me the following questions :-

1. What is the status of the wireless light on the printer, steady or blinking? - The (micro) little blue ((I)) light is 'steady' .

2. I would like to know, is your router set to work on 2.4 GHz network or 5 GHz network band?

BT = BRITISH TELECOM

The (micro) little blue ((I)) light is 'steady' when my wireless network connection is set to SSID value  'BTHub6-QJ53'. (I do not know about 'DIRECT-90-HP DeskJet 2600 series' ).

I do not know if my router is set to 2.4 or 5 Ghz - where would I find out, please?  -  It is the BT HOME network I have always used on this printer for printing.

Thank you

Kenneth Wheatley

To know the network frequency you can check the router.

DIRECT-90-HP DeskJet 2600 series this is a printer's default network to print without wifi or USB.

Refer -Printing with Wi-Fi Direct

Could you go to devices and printers and check if your printer shows up there?

If it shows offline or if there is no printer listed.

Then,

 Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

--->Select your HP printer.

--->Select Uninstall.

--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

--->Click on the Drivers tab.

--->Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

--->Select OK.

--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

--->Close Devices and Printers.

And then reinstall the printer full-featured drivers from software and drivers page

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Have accessed Control Panel - Devices and Printers.

Found HP DeskJet2600 series printer is there and ticked (marked) as default printer.

There is an additional annotation in brackets -  " (Network) ".  -  All looks good to me?

I have just printed a new arrival document in my Outlook email 'INBOX' via Word Processing and it worked OK.

Wonderful. Thank you.

---------------------------------

I do not understand or appreciate the need for " DIRECT-90-HP DeskJet 2600 series - this is a printer's default network to print without wifi or USB. "

But I will apply my mind to the HP document 'Printing with Wi-Fi Direct' as soon as possible in order to learn.

I view it as a security item at present.

I can connect the BT 'Hub6-QJ53' straightforwardly when I need my original configuration network and printing.
