My DeskJet Plus 4120, which I bought on 5th August 2021 from Amazon, goes to sleep after less than an hour of inactivity, but then nothing can induce it to wake from that state, making it pretty much useless. In order to be able to print, the machine has to be turned off at the wall, because the power button does nothing (other than constantly flash on and off).
The display, maybe unsurprisingly, shows nothing at all, and the wi-fi button on the left as you look at the printer, next to the small display panel, is also off (when the printer is awake, it is illuminated as expected).
When the printer is restarted, generally it works fine; I can see it on the network no problem, its IP address can be pinged etc. It's just that once it has fallen asleep, nothing can wake it.
I had no problems setting it up using HP Smart on my Mac when I first got the printer, and the printer is also visible on the iOS app; I have printed and scanned using both the Mac and iOS app.
Looked at the power management options using the EWS, but apparently, as I understand it, when the printer is connected to wi-fi, you can't change the settings, and certainly that is true for me, when the printer is online and awake (when it is asleep, obviously that is also impossible!).
Am I doing something wrong, or is there a setting I have missed somewhere? As it stands, HP's advice to keep the printer online for Smart Ink purposes (and I am signed up for that service) can't be followed, which breaks that a bit doesn't it?
If this can't be sorted, the kit will have to be returned, as it's neither use nor ornament 😞
Thanks
Tony
