Mom's Deskjet 1055 had only a tricolor ink cartridge in it when I picked it up from her place.
I needed to scan a few documents before I could pick up a black cartridge for it, so I plugged it into my MacBook Air running Catalina. Turned it on and the Error light and printer cartridge lights were blinking and continued blinking even though I tried to cancel whatever was going on. Went ahead and scanned what I needed to with no problems.
Today, black ink cartridge in hand, I plugged the printer in again and get the same blinking lights. In Printer Utility, it says that the error is that it lacks a black ink cartridge. I opened the cover to access the carriage, sitting in its station on the right. I couldn't get it to move to the center automatically, so I moved it manually and inserted the black cartridge. The lights didn't stop blinking.
Now in Printer Utility, it says the supplies are good but the Device Status is Printer Carriage is stalled. This is when I went to look online, found a similar issue, which recommended a hard reset, which I performed. Turned printer back on, lights were (are) still blinking. Tried printing a test page as the online solution said and it says "Device is currently busy. Please wait while the device finishes its current job." I looked this up, performed another hard reset, and it's still not working.
What should I do next?

@SpiralUzumaki, Welcome to HP Support Community!
Going through your post I see that the printer is in an error state, I appreciate your detailed description of the issue and also appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve the issue.
If you have already performed the steps from the document 'Carriage Jam' or 'E3' Error Displays and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.
Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
Hope this helps!
