I wanted to use the wireless connection instead of the cable but do not have the software disk. I went to supprt and was being "helped". After giving the support tech access to my computer he fiddled and now I cannot print. When I select print, given no printers. When I try to add given msg "The Active Domain Directory Services is currently unavailable." When attempting to install the printer software, the computer will not recognize the connection. Tried multiple USB ports with same result. I could print and scan before the "help". How can I get the computer to "see" the printer?

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.
I understand that your printer is not getting recognized when you try to setup the printer over USB, is that right?
Not to worry, I will be glad to help.
Are you able to make a copy on the printer? This would let us know if the printer is working fine.
Have you tried a different USB cable?
Recommend you try to setup the printer using a different USB cable.
If the issue persists, please follow the exact procedure mentioned below to uninstall the printer software and settings on your computer and then install it back.
Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
Click on print server properties.
You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.
Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
Restart the PC.
Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files, ignore them).
If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
Restart the PC again.
Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

I used a different printer cable and the PC recogized the printer. Only issue was the diagnostics indicated ok ink levels but actually out of black. Figured that out by changing type color and getting the print. At least I'm now back to where I started. The printer works with the cable that I was trying to get rid of by going wireless. Any assistance for accomplishing that greatly appreciated. I do not have the disk that came with the printer.

Thanks for the reply and glad to hear that you are able to print using a different USB cable. If you have installed the full feature software for your printer, please refer to this HP Article to convert the USB connection to wireless.

This doesn't work for me. 1st, I have Win 10. I tried the steps for Win 8. The Printer Setup and Software selection only offers "Connect a new printer" using a cable and "Add more software". I do not have the original disk. 2nd, Attempting to download the software @ www.hp.com, resulted in the chat and earlier problems. However, opened the link, clicked Support, Software & Drivers, prived the printer model info. Was offered and downloaded - "DJ1050_J410_1313-1.exe
Followed instructions to open the downloaded file. All that happened was a dialogue box to connect a printer using a cable. That's what I did earlier, somehow opened the chat and the problems began. Still stuck with the cable.

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps. Recommend you uninstall the printer software completely, restart the computer and try to setup the printer using Windows built-in driver and let me know if you are able to print. Click here.
