Product: Deskjet 2540
Operating System: macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi,

I am using deskjet 2540 for 4 years. I am using original hp cartridge. Suddenly the printer gives the error that the black cartridge is not original. I tried with another original black cartridge but the same error persists. I tried cleaning the circuit of cartridge contacts but no success. I also tried restarting and hard reset but same problem persists. Please help me with next steps.

These errors might occur with the correct HP ink cartridges under certain circumstances. The ink cartridge might need to be reinstalled, the electrical contacts could be dirty, or there could be an ink cartridge or printer failure.

 

To isolate the issue, I would suggest you perform the troubleshooting steps from this document HP Deskjet Printers - Ink Cartridge Errors.
