macOS 10.12 Sierra

This is a new printer, trying to set it up for first time.  Updated drivers are installed.  Printer was able to print alignment pages.  The Mac preferences show it is installed and ready, HP Smart app shows the same. When I try to print from my Mac (it is hard wired to the desktop Mac through USB) it shows the dialog box for printing.  I click on "print" and the "processing" progress box pops up very briefly (less than a second or two), the printer icon shows in the Dock with a "1" in a red circle and a lightning bolt in an orange circle for less than a second and then goes away.  Then, the power button light on the printer begins to slowly blink. And that is it, no printing and nothing that indicates that any attempt to print was made.  There is nothing in the que showing a print job is waiting. Any help is appreciated

@JCOliver

Are you able to make Photocopies or print from other devices?

Do you have any Antivirus installed on your Mac?

Please update the Printer Firmware and Mac.

Printer Firmware: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Mac update: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201541

Next remove and re-add the printer using Airprint

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6.) Try to print

Let me know how it goes😊

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately. I am still having the same issue.

In response:

I have tried to print from my Macbook (hard wired), but had the exact same issue.  As it is not set up on the network, I cannot print from other devices.

I do not have Virus protection on it right now, and I double checked to make sure the Macs firewall was disabled

I Updated the firmware. everything seemed to go well.  The only snag was that there was not an option for Airprint when re-installing the printer ( The pop up menu I had showed "Choose Driver" and "Auto select" greyed out, and "Generic PCL Printer", " Select Software...", and "Other", so I choose "Generic PCL Driver" since it was the default choice and the printer is not listed in the list th pops up when i click on Select Software".
