I used to use this printer every day and easily had to replace the ink at least once or twice a month. Initially, it was so easy to setup and worked without any problems whatsoever for about a year. (It worked with everything: E-Print, EWS, HP Smart app!)
However, after somewhere between a Windows 10 update and my service provider upgrading the service in my neighborhood, the printer suddenly kept losing connectivity after only a couple of minutes. I worked on the problem for days and days and never found a fix, so I finally gave up and put the printer in timeout. However, I really need this printer! So, about a week ago, I tried again to find a fix, but I still haven't had any luck on my own in spite of hours and hours of effort..
Via the gateway user interface, I can actually see the printer on my network with its own assigned IP address, but I can't get the printer to print from my laptop.
Can someone here please, please help me?

To get you printing just connect the laptop to the 3512 using a USB printer cable.
Now, are you running any type of antivirus program?
Have you run the HP print and scan doctor program?

Thank you very much for your response!
Yes, my printer works fine via USB. But I can't print via Wifi, which is what I need to do because of my inflexible home setup.
I have installed and uninstalled the software and drivers so many times that I have lost count. I have repeatedly used HP Scan Doctor and Microsoft's printing and internet troubleshooting programs. Every one of these always report that a problem cannot be found.
I have no ready knowledge of technical issues and fixes, but I have scoured the Internet for possible fixes and tried any that I could understand. Most of the fixes have involved doing some of what Mans (who helps in this forum) usually suggests. Mans posts are the most comprehensive in outlining all of the steps together as opposed to finding one part in one forum and another part in another forum. However, I have only peeked at the registry, not edited it.
I have worked on this issue twice for over a week each time, but months apart. My results are the same this time as it was months ago. Most of what I have done during both periods is over my head, so I am not sure how to concisely describe it, but I have tried all of these at least once on various occasions:
setting up a USB connection, then converting it to Wifi
setting an iIPaddress via the printer's software user interface. The first time I did this, it took several attempts before it stuck. Now the interface shows the correct IPaddress, but if I type it into a browser address bar it times out. I can't connect to any EWS services either.
pinging my HP printer's IPaddress shows host unreachable, but I can ping my Canon printer with success
looking for ghost devices: none ever found
as recommended: removing every instance of HP printer software and drivers that I can find in the usual places and more obscure places where told to do so.
clearing my temp files
stopping and starting the spooler service
I tried to manually create a new port, but I got confused, so when it didn't work, I wasn't surprised.
Upon a brand new Wifi installation, the printer connects and I have printed report pages from the printer lcd screen. But, within minutes, I get a notice on my laptop screen that the scanning software can't connect. Troubleshooting from there always leads me back to the same exact dead end.
I discovered a new to me topic here on this forum. It has to do with Windows services. When I checked one in particular, WIA, it was paused, was missing one of its dependencies, and login wasn't configured correctly. I discovered problems with two other services, but the information about dependencies and logins wasn't listed in the topic, so I haven't done anything with those services to date. That is an older article on this forum written by Jeet_singh.
Given that none of the usual fixes have worked, I, personally, suspect my problem may be with Windows services, but I have no idea which ones should be running in what state, nor what their dependencies and logins should be. Help here would be very greatly appreciated!
Please let me know if I need to try to explain any of this better, or if you need any additional information from me.
Thank you again for your help!

I just remembered something else... I read somewhere (here, I think) about checking to make sure certain incoming and outgoing TCP and UDP ports (maybe port rules) were present. (I think that is the correct terminology.) When I checked, at least 50% of these were not present on my system. I followed the detailed instructions on how to add them, except for how to name them, which wasn't stated in the post. I gave them rather generic names... HP Printer New Rule TCPxxxx or HP Printer New Rule UDPxxxx. I think it was about this time that my personal printer IPaddress finally stuck in the printer LCD screen. Prior to that, it would appear then suddenly revert to 169.254.199.28, which I understand is a generic IPaddress for a non-reachable personal IPaddress.
I know this is a lot of info, but I hope someone here can make some sense of where my glitch is and help me fix it. Also, since this seems to be a very common problem on a lot of forums, it may help lots of other people too. (fingers crossed!)

Since you have no problems with the Canon it is possible that the WiFi radio on the 3512 is defective.
Have you checked the firmware on the 3512, latest is GWP1FN1608AR.

Yes, earlier this week I found the firmware and used it. It didn't fix my connectivity problem.
Additionally, a few days later, I read about doing a printer reset. I could only find what was called a partial-reset on my printer, so I did that too. Still no fix.
As per my printer's most recent HP Network Configuration Page printout, my firmware is still the latest available, so the partial-reset did not undo the firmware (if undoing it is possible).
One thing I have noticed, is that I can't change the printer's name in Devices and Printers. And when I did it in the print manager software, it never changed in Devices and Printers, plus it became dim and went into offline status. After a couple of tries, I finally got the printer back to its default name via the printer manager software, whereupon it went back to online status. Because of this and my inability to use any EWS services, I really feel like a service(s) is not fully configured somewhere. What services are needed for EWS to work properly? And how are they configured?
Thanks again!

Right click on the Start menu and Select Run.
Enter the command printui /s /t2
Remove any listed HP printer and select the 2nd option to remove both the printer driver and its package.
Next check the Windows system files using sfc /scannow from a command prompt.
Reinstall the HP software.

I have previously done those steps. It did not fix my problem.
If it can be found on any forum, I don't think there is any common solution that I haven't tried... except for registry modifications.
When I first lost wifi printing capability on this machine, I was on the EWS service Internet web page for my printer. My service provider accidentally knocked our neighborhood service out for several days due to upgrading its cables for upgraded services in our neighborhood. When I called about the outage, I was told my service would not be offered within a very few weeks and that I would need to upgrade my service. Doing this required a new router. Every other device we owned readily connected to the new router (network) without any problem whatsoever. And since then, I have installed other devices on this network.
On the other hand, I had a heck of a time even getting this printer on the network. Once on, it still won't communicate with my machine. After doing all of the more common printer and device fixes, I have come to think that getting abruptly knocked off of the EWS service Internet web page for my printer is the root of the problem. What fixes specifically involve EWS? (I have found very little information anywhere regarding this.)
Thanks bunches!

It has been a few years since I originally set up this printer's Eprint , Internet web page printer interface, and HP Smart.
In the printer's current state, I can't access any of these through my machine. Is there an online portal through HP where I can login and access Eprint and/or the Internet web page printer interface? Maybe these aren't getting changed because I can't connect to them through my machine. I hope this train of thought makes some sense.
