Deskjet 3650
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

1st of all, this printer works very well using Windows 7 Pro (x64)

Windows 8.1 will recognize it (USB sound played) and show it in Devices as Dekjet 3650 instantly.
Windows Update wont do anything though. No confirmation, nothing.

So, it sits there in devices/printers,
but it wont offer any settings/possibilities and wont let me select it from any application,

as it is not there.

HP site says "Let the OS do it" (Windows update will do it) -_-

But using the manual installation "trick" from the hp site doesnt offer the 3650, even with "Windows Update" clicked there is no 3650 enlisted.

Using the "Deskjet 6980" in manual installation, as adviced on the hp site, will trigger an installation, but neither the test page nor anything else can be printed. A simple error (Error) comes up.

So, google isnt much help either anymore and I hope someone here has a hint for me.

Did you try the Deskjet 3600 driver?

You can also try the Deskjet PCL3 Class driver.

Hello and thank you for the reply.

The problem is, everytime I attach the printer, Windows 8.1 will "install" the 3650...but its just a graphic under "Devices and Printers" with no function. And I cant select it from Word or Paint. I then remove the device.

Installing PCL Class Driver or PCL Class Driver 2 gave me an error when clicking "Print Test Page".

Just that...Error.

Installing the 3600 series (LIDIL) hands me a "The Printer is in an error state" when clicking "Print Test Page".

But as mentioned, it works just fine using Win 7 Pro.

p.s.

I cleaned the cartridges a bit, even if they were new and clean, then I clicked calibration and it suddenly started to calibrate even printed the calibration pages...now the printer shows up in Word and Paint. I havent used hp printers for some time, but I was sure calibration wasnt a "must have" to be able to see it in programs...

Also its refilled 3rd party cartridges...and I read about firmware updates when having problems with these.

Yet I didnt find a firmware for the 3650.

Anyway, it worked with the 3600 drivers this time...somehow... BUT :

Printing A4 full size photos from photoshop will only print a very small photo in the upper left corner of the paper. Even if its all set to A4 and print filled. And according to google and this forum other printers from hp show the same "magic"...

Paint let me click "Print"...but wont do anything and there is nothing in the printer que.

Word prints letters without problems in normal size.

p.s. p.s.

When reloadign the jpg I wanted to print, photoshop said "This image was saved with the wrong printsize details and it got reset"....jesus....

Computers, tzzz ;D
