I have an E3 error on my Deskjet 3755. I’ve inspected the inside, there are no paper or other mechanical jams. The ink cartridges are able to move freely across the full range. The issue appears to be a white plastic gear that attaches to the last roller on the paper feed. When I turn the printer on, I can hear it trying to turn this roller but it’s unable to - it just clicks when it tries to move in either direction.

I have tried all of the reset and troubleshooting steps online and nothing works.

Hi @Kaitlynandcoof,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand an E3 error in the HP Deskjet 3755 typically indicates a paper jam or a carriage jam, but you've mentioned that neither of these seems to be the issue. Since you've already inspected the inside and verified that the cartridges can move freely, it might be related to the mentioned gear or internal mechanical parts. Here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the outlet and the printer.

Inspect for Obstructions:

  • Double-check for any small debris or pieces of paper that might not be immediately visible.
  • Use a flashlight to inspect deep inside the paper path and the print carriage path.

Check the Paper Path:

  • Ensure that the input and output trays are clear and properly aligned.
  • Remove any visible bits of paper or foreign objects, not just complete paper jams.

Examine the Gears:

  • Ensure that the gears are not damaged. Check if they freely move or if they appear worn or broken.
  • Sometimes, a small obstruction or piece of paper debris can get lodged in the gears.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure the printer firmware is up to date. You can download the latest firmware from the Official HP® Support.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you for the extra info.

I tried the reset and made sure the firmware was updated but I didn’t have any luck.

I examined the inside of the printer and there doesn’t appear to be any obstructions or jams in the paper path.

In terms of the gears issue, when the printer spins up, the ink cartridges will move the full range without issue, but then the white gears in my photo (circled in red) will try to turn in both directions. The gears don’t turn in either direction and then I hear a click.

Does that help troubleshoot?
