I know how to visit the HP website and find technical support. I tried that for the first hour of my messing with this device. After two hours devoted/wasted trying to get the printer to do anything but blink the ink light I gave up and decided that HP products are not worth repairing or using. The cartridges are brand new right out of their envelopes. The connections are clean, I even cleaned them several times according to the troublshooting instructions. The alignment sheet won't print. The test sheet won't print. Nothing will print. The ink cartridge light blinks and an E is displayed on the copy count field. No combination of button pushing gets the printer to do anything else.

Hi DV6000victim,
Are you using new OEM or remanufactured cartridges?
Have you made sure there are no tears or scratchs in the copper contacts on both the cartridges, and the cartridge mechanism in the printer?

Both cartridges are new, HP OEM, directly out of the box and sealed envelopes. How unscratched do the contacts need to be in order to be operational? Should they be examined using a magnifying glass, jeweler's loupe, or is the use of a microscope in order? If either are found to be scratched what do you suggest be done? Buff them with a chamois, emery cloth, or micro-fine wet-dry sandpaper? I am just trying to figure out how much effort should be expended in changing two plastic ink cartridges.

Hi DV6000victim,
If you have tried more than one set of cartridges there is a chance there is a hardware issue with the printer causing the cartridges not to reqister properly. I suggested checking for scratches to make sure this was not the cause. You would be able to see any defects with the naked eye, and would not need any kind of equipment. If you find that there is no pysical damage to the cartridges and have tried another set then this would leave the printer as being the cause. It could be due to built up of ink on the contacts or the ribbon cable has been damaged over the use of the product. Below is some options for you to consider.

Hi royal0151,
Which cartridge light is blinking on the control panel?
Are you using new OEM or Remanufactured cartridges?
Did this happen right after you changed a cartridge?
