My deskjet printer was running low on colour ink and stopped printing with error message 'no toner'. I replaced the colour cartridge with a new HP cartridge but am still getting the no toner message. Where is the toner for the Deskjet f2180, do I need to replace the black ink also or is the printer dead? It won't photocopy either.

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

I understand that you have been using an HP Deskjet f2180 and you get an error message "no toner" on it.

Let's reset the Printer:

1.    Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
2.    Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3.    With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4.    Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
5.    Wait at least 60 seconds.
6.    Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

7.    Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
8.    Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
9.    Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If resetting the printer does not resolve the issue, try removing and reinserting the color ink cartridge.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Thank you. I tried that but it still won't work. I bought the high performance HP colour ink cartridge instead of the usual one and am wondering if it's that or whether my printer has had it. It won't photocopy either, for the same reason I presume.

This could be a Hardware issue. Please try to insert the old cartridge back and check if you still get the error message.

If the issue still persists, I recommend you contacting the HP Phone Support Team for service options.
