Deskjet6940
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm installing a new Dell Optiplex desktop running Windows 10 64 bit.  We have a deskjet 6940 printer connected via wired network.  The IP address of the DJ6940 is 192.168.100.200.  When I attempt to "Add printer" and enter the IP address, the driver is not listed.  When I click on "Windows Update" button, the message "windows is updating the list of printers, this might take a few minutes."  When the updated list of printers is returned, the DESKJET 6940 is not listed.  According to HP's website, the Windows 10 driver is part of Windows built in solution.  I searched Microsoft's update catalog and found several CAB files listed for Windows 10 Deskjet 6940.  I extracted the CAB files but installation of the drivers failed, saying it was not the correct driver.  There is one other Windows 10 computer in the office that has the drivers installed for the deskjet and prints OK.  I have no idea where the drivers were installed from.

Since I've been struggling with this for several hours, I ran the Windows update and saw a printer driver listed for DESKJET 6600.  I installed that printer driver.  The test page printed OK.

@DblDiamond

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you had printer driver issue.

Good to know that the printer is working fine,

In the feature, if you get any driver issue and want to reinstall the printer with Windows built-in driver.

Refer this HP document:- Click here

The document you reference is exactly what I have tried multiple times.  That's the problem.  Even after doing HP update the driver is 6940 driver is NOT listed.  The 6600 driver is listed and seems to work OK.  Thanks for trying to help.

@DblDiamond,

I have reviewed the response. It is nice to hear from you again and your efforts are greatly appreciated. As @sandytechy20 is out for the day, I am responding on his behalf.

I am glad that you have a working printer at least now.

Thanks and have a great week ahead.
