I am printing on an Envy 5055 printer.  Unfortunately, the colors are distorted from what I see on the sceen of my computer (or on other computers if I put the images there).  Reds come out as browns and blues as grays.  I'm using HP factory heavy duty ink cartriges.  Is there a way to adjust the color settings on the printer to compensate for this?

Greetings!

Welcome back to the HP Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, there's an issue with the print quality.

Don't worry, I'm here to help! To better assist you - Are you experiencing the same issue while making a copy as well?

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 Print settings -

1) In the software application, you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print.
2) Open the Properties dialog box.
Depending on the software application, the button might be Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
3) Depending on your print job, you might consider modifying the following settings:
Paper Type: If you are printing on photo paper, select the type of photo paper you are attempting to print on.
Print Quality: If you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, increase the print quality. To print more quickly, decrease the print quality. These options typically include Best, Normal, and Draft modes.
Paper Size: If you are printing on a different size of paper than you normally print on, select the correct paper size.
Black and White: If you want to print in black and white only, select the grayscale option.
4) After selecting the print settings, click OK to apply the settings, and then click Print.

Step 2 Print a Print Quality Diagnostic report -

1) On the printer control panel, touch the Settings icon, and then touch Tools.
2) Touch Print Quality Report and check for defects.

  • If there are defects, try step# 10, 11 and 12 from this document.
  • If there are no defects, try re-installing the printer drivers. Refer to step# 1 from this document.

Hope this helps!

Let me know how that goes.

I ran the Print Quality Report as suggested and there were no defects.  I'm not about to try to reinstall the drivers since I had major difficulties getting them installed when I originally bought the printer (I had to download the entire driver file since my system (Win 7 64-bit) was not able to install it automatically from the Internet. and even then it took several passes and inquiries for help here to get everything working).
