I'm having a problem getting my new printer setup to my wife's laptop. It works with mine but her's shows that the network is turned off when it is on. Do I need to use Wifi Direct. Is there another way to use the printer? And how could I do it?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

P.S. I hope this is the right forum to post this in.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

We'd suggest that you update the Firmware (latest is version 1740A) for the printer.  This resource will show you how it's done:

Updating FW on HP OfficeJet Pro 8740

(different printer but the steps are the same)

After that, try to setup the printer again on your wife's computer.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply.

So I've checked my firmware & it is up to date. I decided to turn off the wifi direct & go from there. My laptop worked right away but, once again, my wife's won't work. I'm beginning to think tat it's her laptop that's messed up - not the printer.

It's the same problem: It's connected to the internet (& network) but says that it isn't. I have a feeling that it's just a setting that needs to be changed but I'll be darned if I can figure it out. Any suggestions?

Hi @jambunks

Thanks for getting back.

Have the (problem) laptop tried to install the FULL feature software?  Was it successful?

The following resource will help you :

Hope that helps!
