Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I see that you require assistance with scanning from the ADF. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to Terrific observations and great diagnosis of the issue. It is amply appreciated.
Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:
- Did this happen after a power outage or surge?

- Please perform all the relevant steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8600-e-all-in-one-printer-series-n911/4322914/... (HP Officejet Pro 8600 Printers - The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Does Not Pick Paper)
- Step 1 to step 3. Now check if it gets resolved.
Now check if the issue gets fixed. If it still persists, then from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8600-e-all-in-one-printer-series-n911/4322914/... (HP Officejet Pro 8600 Printers - Paper Jam Error) perform relevant steps to check if there are any paper jams that can be cleared.
- Look for issue resolution. If it continues, follow instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8600-e-all-in-one-printer-series-n911/4322914/... (HP Officejet, DeskJet, and Photosmart All-in-One - Printer Paper Tears, Wrinkles, or is Damaged while Printing from the All-in-One) and perform all the relevant steps.
This should nail it if the printer has no hardware issues. Otherwise, the printer's hardware may be faulty and it needs to be replaced. I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action if these steps draw a blank. Check your forum private message box in the upper right corner next to the bell icon.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help
Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
