When I load the paper to scan, I use the side liners to line up the paper so that it will go in stright, however, when it scans, the first page is generally crooked, and sometimes the third piece will jam.

Good Day.  Thank you for posting your query in the HP community.   I see that you require assistance with scanning from the ADF. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to Terrific observations and great diagnosis of the issue.  It is amply appreciated.

Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:

  • Did this happen after a power outage or surge?

I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:

Now check if the issue gets fixed. If it still persists, then from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8600-e-all-in-one-printer-series-n911/4322914/... (HP Officejet Pro 8600 Printers - Paper Jam Error) perform relevant steps to check if there are any paper jams that can be cleared.

This should nail it if the printer has no hardware issues. Otherwise, the printer's hardware may be faulty and it needs to be replaced. I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action if these steps draw a blank. Check your forum private message box in the upper right corner next to the bell icon.
