My HP 6968 printer is giving one of those throw it in the trash errors, 0xc19a0003. It is having issues with the printhead. The troubleshooting steps have led to "have the printer serviced". If the model uses integrated print heads, then it may be worth it to try swapping the ink cartridges before trashing the printer. However, if it has fixed print heads, that's just throwing good money after bad. It's not worth wasting $50-60 on a very large paperweight.
The color cartridges are relatively new, installed about a month ago. The black cartridge is older. I've tried looking up both the printer model and cartridge models. I've read through the user guide again. Nothing says whether the ink is IPH or IIC as far as I can tell.

The Officejet 6968 is an IIC printer with a permanant printhead. IPH printers typically have two cartrdiges, a black and tri-color cartridge.
