HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e All-in-One Printer

It was my understanding that Off Brand cartridges could be used in HP printers with understanding quality may not be as good.  Having Cartridge Protection off enabled that.  Did HP change it in Jan 2025 to shut down/block printer?  If so, Epson here I come.

Short Answer: Not under contract.  Worked well for 1 year before HP Printer Police stopped me from using it.

Long Answer:  I received 12 months of free support service when I bought the printer (June 0f 2021) because I signed up for instant ink.  I have documentation showing service would have ended June of 2023.  I was not happy with the ink service or printer and canceled it 3 months before.  Ink sent too soon.  The printer/scanner has never had the quality I like.  Alignment constantly needs to be adjusted and scanner skews pages.  I did not use any off-brand cartridge until the printer was 9 months out of service and had quality problems.  Quite frankly I did not want to pay the high HP price for a printer that did not work well anyway.  I used off-brand for 1 year before HP Printer Police "identified it" and locked up printer.

My question has not been answered.  Why is HP controlling a printer that is way out of service!  Can this be reset?  Unlocked?

The printer requires cartridges that include an HP chip embedded in the cartridge.

There is no reset to remove the requirement.

The printer requires that all ink cartridges used in the printer include an HP chip embedded in the cartridge.

This limitation includes cartridges that are refilled (by you) and / or refilled and sold by any seller, and remanufactured cartridges.

This protection is called Dynamic Security.

There is no legal means of removing or bypassing the need for the HP chip in the ink cartridge.

HP does not sell, recommend, nor support any of used or refilled practices.

The use of of a used or refilled HP chipped cartridge might be tolerated by the printer.

Trouble with refilled / remanufactured ink?  See the ink seller for information, help, or support.

I called phone support and they finally answered my question directly.  You cannot use an HP Printer with off-brand cartridges on a wireless network.  They will shut you down.  HP is the printer police.  Representative said they could even reach down into my ethernet network and shut it down as a direct connect to a PC.  NOT.  I got it installed.  However, I am so disappointed in HP.  The quality of the printer, scanner and being the long arm of big brother that I will be buying another brand printer this week.  This printer will go to rapid recycle.
