I recently purchased a new Office jet Pro 6978 and when I replaced the original HP cartridige with an after maket one, I received the following message, "One or more cartridges appeared to be damaged", AKA the Dynamic Security message. I read about this and thought that a firmware fix was available however this is not the case. When I went to the HP software download page and read about the firmware it stated the following:
Reminder: Dynamic security enabled printer. This Firmware includes dynamic security measures, which may prevent supplies with non-HP chips or circuitry from working now or in the future.
Didn't HP lose a case in the Supreme Court and have to pay 5 million dollars for this exact action a couple of years ago? How, or is it even possible to disable the the new Dynamic Security features on my printer?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

Hi, I am experiencing the same problem as Presby. I am at a school and we also have a stock of after market ink that suddenly stopped being accepted by our 6978 OfficeJet printers. Please get in touch with me with the assistance or information you provided Presby concerning this issue as our institution does now have the funds to spend on a whole new stock of ink cartridges when he already have a stock that are not damaged and should be working with the 6978 OfficeJet.

@343-AG, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.
QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. remanufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.
Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely 70% of refilled cartridges had some form of reliability problem Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing.
You may think you're saving money on remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference.
