@EPD21, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand your HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer has stopped printing entirely, even test pages. Let’s walk through a few steps to help resolve this issue.

Power Reset the Printer

Sometimes a simple reset can fix communication or hardware glitches.

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door and ensure both cartridges are installed correctly.
  • Check for low ink levels or any error messages.
  • Clean the cartridge contacts using a lint-free cloth if needed.

Reinstall the Printer Driver

Corrupt or outdated drivers can prevent printing.

  • Uninstall the printer from your computer.
  • Download and install the latest full feature software: Official HP® Support

Try a Test Page from Printer Menu

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Print a Test Page.
  • If this fails, it may indicate a hardware issue.

Check Connection Type

  • If using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the correct network.
  • For USB, try a different port or cable.

Factory Reset (if all else fails)

This will restore the printer to its original settings.

  • On the printer, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
