Changed the color ink cartridge (using an Original HP ink cartridge 64) and now my printer has been stuck saying "validating - please wait" for HOURS!!  I tried putting the old cartridge back in, also putting the old black cartridge back in  and it still sits at "validating - please wait."  I have unplugged the printer from the power, waited a few minutes and restarted with no luck. cleaned the contacts. model#:7955e

@patrick1073, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Validating - please wait" message getting stuck on your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e printer after installing a new ink cartridge is typically caused by a firmware or cartridge recognition issue. Since you've already tried cleaning contacts, reinserting the cartridges (both new and old), and power cycling the printer, here are additional steps to resolve it:

Perform a Hard Reset (Super Reset)

This is deeper than a regular power cycle.

  1. Turn ON the printer (if it's not already stuck on the screen).
  2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer while it is still powered on.
  3. Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 5 minutes.
  5. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  6. Plug it back into a different wall outlet (not a surge protector or extension cord).
  7. Turn it on and wait.

Remove Ink Cartridges Before Powering On

  1. Open the cartridge access door and remove both cartridges.
  2. Close the door with cartridges out.
  3. Power cycle the printer again (unplug → wait → plug in).
  4. Once it's booted to a state where it prompts for cartridges or says missing ink, insert the cartridges one at a time:
  • Insert the original HP black cartridge first.
  • Wait for it to validate or prompt.
  • Then insert the original HP color cartridge.

Update Firmware via USB (if it becomes responsive)

If you're able to get the printer out of the "validating" screen, quickly:

  1. Download the latest firmware update for your model from HP Support site.
  2. Install it via USB cable using the HP Printer Update Utility.
  • This can sometimes correct bugs that cause validation to hang.

Disable Web Services via HP Smart App (if accessible)

If you manage to access the printer from the HP Smart App:

Go to Settings > Web Services > Remove Web Services.

Some users reported Web Services interfering during cartridge authentication.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

none of these steps worked. Even just the old black ink installed, would just stay stuck on validating...it also refused to connect to the wifi after the reset. Had to, with the help of a tech support guy, he remote connected and did a few things including factory reset the printer and start fresh.
