HP ENVY Photo 7800 will not restart. I have pulled the power multiple times and the blue screen comes up and spins with the dots at the bottom, and then just stops responding or advancing. None of the manual controls on the printer work/respond.
When I use HP Smart to diagnose, it cannot find the printer because the printer is not completing the restart and is offline.
I have seen other questions of the same kind in the community forum and an HP employee responds with a private message with instructions to "semi-reset the printer". Not sure why this has to be a big secret, but I need those instructions.
Again - the typical "hard reboot" via cutting power is not working. Thank you.

@JM_23, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I can appreciate your concern, but the semi-full reset is sent in private because executing these steps on any other model could cause the printer to brick.

Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Wait for 60 seconds and connect the power cord back in.
  5. Turn on the printer.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only):

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

If the above does not work, I suggest you refer to this guide to factory default the printer: Restore factory defaults on your HP printer | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Unfortunately, the semi-full reset does not work. When you reconnect the power cord to the printer, it automatically turns on - so there is no valid step to "turn on the printer". The same white screen came back with the blue dots and HP logo. As I am connected to this printer via WiFi - none of the follow up steps to update drivers, etc. can occur because my computers cannot locate the printer due to the status it is in. In order to do the factory defaults, the control panel on the printer needs to be accessible - which it is not.
I have now tried to connect the printer via "hard-line" (not WiFi) to my desktop and get the same white screen with blue dots - so the printer cannot be found on the local network (WiFi) NOR the actual wired connection. So since it cannot be found and the control panel isn't working, there is no way to update drivers, restore defaults, etc.

Hey @JM_23,

Thank you for your response

To be clear, I had only given a step to perform a factory default to the unit, even though you had previously stated that you had completed a semi-full reset.

I will be sending you the information via private message so you can do a semi-full reset. As performing semi full reset on different models/unit may brick the printer.

Take care and have a good day.
