Encription credentials have expired. How do I get a new Certificate for my HP LaserJet Printer that was working fine before this message stopped it printing. HP will not help, as they say my printer is older and they will not help me. They referred me to Apple, as I have a Mac Book Pro computer. Apple cannot do anything, as they say it is a HP problem.

Hi @Ainslie6,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Encryption credentials have expired" message typically relates to the SSL/TLS certificate installed on your HP LaserJet printer. When the certificate expires, it can cause connectivity issues, especially when printing over a network.
Access the Printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- Ensure your printer and MacBook are on the same network.
- Find the printer’s IP address from the printer’s control panel or via a configuration page (usually accessible via the printer menu).
- Open a web browser on your MacBook and type the printer's IP address into the address bar. This should take you to the Embedded Web Server.
Login to the EWS:
- If prompted, log in using the administrator credentials. If you don’t know the password, check your printer's manual or reset the credentials to factory defaults if needed.
Navigate to the Security Settings:
- Once logged in, look for a section like Security or Network Settings.
- Locate the Certificates or Encryption Credentials option.
Generate a New Certificate:
- Select the option to generate a new self-signed certificate.
- Set a validity period (e.g., 1 year or more, depending on the options available).
- Save the changes. The printer will likely restart to apply the new certificate.
Update Printer Settings on MacBook:
- After renewing the certificate, delete the printer from your Mac's list of printers.
- Re-add the printer by going to System Settings > Printers & Scanners and clicking the "+" button to add it back. This ensures your Mac recognizes the new certificate.
If the EWS Is Not Accessible:
If you cannot access the EWS, try these:
Reset the Printer Network Settings:
- Resetting the network settings on the printer may clear the expired certificate and allow you to set it up fresh.
- Refer to the printer’s manual for instructions on resetting network settings.

Firmware Update:
- If possible, update the printer’s firmware. Firmware updates sometimes refresh certificates or resolve connectivity issues. You can download firmware updates from HP's support website.
If None of These Work:
You might be able to bypass the certificate issue temporarily by printing directly using:
- USB Connection: Connect the printer directly to your Mac via USB to avoid encryption issues.
- AirPrint: If your printer supports AirPrint, it may not rely on the expired certificate.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
