Envy 4500 prints from computer but not when ok button on printer pushed

If your HP ENVY 4500 is printing from the computer but not responding when you press the OK button on the printer, follow these structured troubleshooting steps:

 

1. Check the Printer’s Status

Ensure the printer is powered on and no error messages appear on the display.

If the printer is in sleep mode (power button light dim), press the Power button to wake it.

 

2. Verify Wireless Connection

Confirm that the wireless status light is solid blue—this indicates a stable connection.

If the light is blinking or off, press the Wireless button to start reconnection or run wireless troubleshooting.

Make sure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

 

3. Inspect the Printer Control Panel

Check for any prompts, warnings, or error codes when pressing the OK button.

Ensure you are not stuck in an incorrect menu mode and try pressing Back or Home if available.

 

4. Perform a Soft Reset

Turn off the printer.

Unplug the power cable from the rear of the printer.

Wait 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and power it on.

A soft reset often clears control panel freezes.

 

5. Verify Paper Loading

Ensure paper is properly loaded in the input tray.

Remove and reload paper if needed to eliminate any minor feed obstruction.

 

6. Update Printer Firmware

Visit the HP Support website.

Search for the HP ENVY 4500.

Download and install the latest firmware update if available.

 

7. Check for Software or Network Changes

If you recently changed Wi-Fi networks, installed new software, or updated your system, ensure these changes are not affecting printer communication.

Restart your router and computer if needed.

If the OK button still doesn't respond after trying all steps, the issue may be due to a faulty control panel button or internal hardware failure, and a service center visit might be required.
