Greetings @Garthur69,
Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.
I understand that you need assistance in changing the copy settings on your printer, is that right?
Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.
Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.
Found this HP Article with the steps to change the copy settings on your printer.
-
From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Copy icon
.
-
Swipe to the desired number of copies, or touch the keypad icon
, then input a number.
-
Touch the Settings icon
, then specify the desired advanced copy settings.
-
2-sided: Select On or Off.
If you select On for the 2-sided copy option from the scanner glass, make sure to load the second page on the scanner glass when prompted.
-
Paper Size and Type: Make sure the input tray is loaded with the correct paper size and paper type.
NOTE:
To change the paper size and paper type settings, open and close the input tray door. The printer prompts you to confirm or change the paper size and paper type.
-
Resize: Select the size of the image of the photo or document that you want to copy.
-
Actual: Make a copy that is the same size as the original. The margins of the copied image might be clipped.
-
Fit to page: Make a copy that is centered with a white border around the edges. The resized image is either enlarged or reduced to fit the size of the selected output paper.
The 2-sided copy option does not work if the Fit to page option is selected.
-
Custom: Increase the size of the image by selecting values greater than 100% or reduce the image size by selecting values less than 100%.
-
-
Lighter/Darker: Slide the button to select the lightness/darkness level, and then touch OK.
-
ID Card Copy: Make a copy of both sides of an ID card from the scanner glass.
-
-
Touch Back
to return to the Copy screen.
-
Touch Start Black or Start Color to start the copy job.
The printer prints the copy job
Last option under settings is to control the Lighter or Darker copy.
Let me know if this helped.

Thank for answering, but no, it didn't address my problem. I have already gone through the steps you outlined and did again after receiving your advise. The problem is that when I try to copy directly from my 4520 printer, it only will print in "Best" quality, which takes forever. Is there a way I can set it to copy in "Draft" when copying directly from the printer. (No problem with Draft quailty when printing from my desktop). Thanks again,

Thanks for the reply, please set the copy to lighter as suggested in the steps above to change the copy quality.
"Lighter/Darker: Slide the button to select the lightness/darkness level, and then touch OK."
Hope this helped.

Well, thanks again for trying, but no it didn't resolve the problem. I had previously tried slidding the setting to lighter, and did again after your advise, but it still took forever to print and the quality of print was so light that it was almost unreadable. The setting on my printer is lighter, normal, darker; and the little setting ball icon will not slide inbetween a setting, it's either on a setting or it's not. Still, it still dosen't quicken the speed of the print job. Thanks again for trying, but I fear there is not a resolution for this problem.

Thanks for the reply, please connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable.
Visit www.hp.com/drivers and enter the printer model you are using.
Download and install the firmware update while the printer is connected to your computer using a USB cable.
This should fix the issue, you are facing.
If the issue persists, I will be sending you a private message on HP Forums to reset the printer.
If you still do not get the option you are looking for after the reset, please contact our phone support team for further assistance.
Keep me posted.

The question was how to change the settings for print quality when copying directly from the printer. I also am waiting over 3 minutes to get a copy because somehow the print quality must be set to high. Yet there is no specific answer to change the printer into a basic copier that doesn't take minutes to copy one sheet.
The answer given here involves everything but an answer, with the last advice involving connecting the copier to my computer using a USB cable. But what to do then? Still no answer.
Terrible.

I totally agree. Each of the last two answers I received from HP provided a lot of information, except an answer/solution to my printing problem. I explained twice that setting the printer to 'lighter' did not speed up the printer, it just makes the print very light. (Dah...) Sorry you too are having a problem, but glad it's not just me. Thanks again for your post.

I went out seeking some help about ordinary copies taking minutes to complete. As I read through the posts on this page I'm another person who is frustrated by 4520's quality issue. How does HP plan to resolve this?
