Trying to help my neighbor set up his Envy 4520 printer. I downloaded the printer installation app and ran it; could not connect wireless. Error was 'Unable to connect to printer', then it said to check the network connection and try again. So I checked and according to the printer diag page, it is connected and working just fine.
Restarting the printer and rerunning wireless setup made no difference. I tried a USB cord and was able to get it running but it would not convert from USB to wireless - again, setup insisted the printer wasn't online.
So, I tried another pc, my personal one and again, setup could not find the printer on the local network.
Two calls to 'support' yielded no help. Both PCs are also HPs. I can ping the printer ip address and get a response.
I assume(?) I need a firmware update for the printer. The owner told me is worked in his other house but when he moved it was no longer able to connect using the PC /LAN - although it prints from his cell phone just fine. It is currently working using the USB cable which he says is fine but its a shame the printer can't be configured to use local wireless. Windows setup is a joke; Windows asks for some printer key which apparently (according to Support) doesn't exist.
Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.

@pscarbor, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand you are trying to connect the printer wirelessly to the PC. Let us try these steps:
Make sure you are trying to connect the printer to the home private network. Guest network/Hotspot will not help.
On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore network settings
Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your Win 10 computer.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
- Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network.
- This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. So, the PC should be on the 2.4GHz network.
- If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win 10 PC(Wireless connectivity)
Click here to download and know more about the app.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I tried what you sent; it worked fine for my PC but the neighbor's still cannot connect wirelessly. I had it on the USB cable so I tried 'convert from USB to wireless' but the PC still couldn't find it that way - although the printer is listed under Windows printers. Weird.
Anyway, I have it running using the cable which the neighbor says is acceptable. At least she can print that way. I appreciate your assistance with this.

In this case, there could be an issue with the wireless router as it working fine with your PC.
Check the 2.4 and 5GHz network
Check for any firewalls/anti-virus installed on the PC.
Make sure MAC filtering is turned off on the router.
Also, you may go to the router settings and change the channel number to either 1, 6, or 11
Let me know how this goes.
