I have an Envy 6000 which sometimes prints in color, sometimes not. I am using the HP Smart app to Print Photos. I can select an image (a JPG file from disk). The first page shows the proper color. The final page changes to B/W, which it should not be, and the resulting photo is B/W.

How do I fix this?

Hi @jjbrehm,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 6000 is printing in color inconsistently—sometimes printing in color and other times in black and white—especially when using the HP Smart app to print photos, there could be several factors contributing to the issue. Here's a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to help you address this problem:

1. Check Print Settings

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Select your HP Envy 6000 printer.
  3. Go to the Print option and choose Photo or the relevant document type.
  4. Check the print settings to ensure that the color option is selected. Look for any setting that might be defaulting to black and white or grayscale.
  5. Go to your computer’s Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (Mac).
  6. Navigate to Devices and Printers (Windows) or Printers & Scanners (Mac).
  7. Find your HP Envy 6000 printer, right-click it, and select Printing Preferences or Properties.
  8. Make sure that the color option is selected, and verify that it is not set to print in grayscale.

2. Update Printer Drivers and Software

  1. Visit the HP Support website and enter your printer model.
  2. Download and install the latest drivers for your HP Envy 6000.:
  • Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed. Updates can fix bugs and improve performance.

3. Check Ink Cartridges

  • Check the ink levels of all cartridges using the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel. Low or empty cartridges could cause color printing issues.
  • Remove and reinstall the color cartridges to ensure they are seated properly.
  • Use the printer’s built-in cleaning function to clean the print heads. This can help if the print heads are clogged or not delivering ink correctly.

4. Check Paper Type and Quality

  • Ensure you are using the right type of paper for photo printing. High-quality photo paper often provides better color results.
  • Ensure that the paper is loaded correctly and is not causing any paper jams or misfeeds.

5. Perform Printer Maintenance

  • Use the HP Smart app or printer’s control panel to run diagnostics or print quality checks. This can help identify any issues with the print quality
  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.

6. Test Different Print Jobs

  • Test Different Documents:
    • Try printing different types of documents or images to see if the issue is specific to certain files or applications.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
