HP ENVY 5660
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Trying to print a picture from Internet.  Received error report saying printer not activated, error reference -20. Using HP ENVY 5660 and it prints other  tasks.  Is it only the Web Site not wanting its material printed or do I have an equipment problem?

I have finally resolved this problem, much to my embarrassment.  In the midst of the original  problem, I had to use a menu that appeared when I clicked for a print job.  I failed to read all the options.  One option which I ignored was:

     Destination:       Save as PDF

                                     HP ENVY5600 series

                                     Broderbund PDF Convertor

Had I selected  the 5600 option, I would not have had the problem.

Instead, I chose the option at the bottom of the list stating "Print using system dialog".

I feel fairly certain that I am the only one ignorant enough to experience this trouble, but if anyone can benefit from my

failure, be my guest.

Thanx for your patience and expertise, Rich.

Hello Art,

Can you copy the pic to a file such as in MS Word or to a file, such as create a file  on your desktop, from which you would print?

Two sources say the problem may be that "If a print job exceeds the memory capacity of the printer, this code will appear. Reducing the DPI or making the document simpler are just a couple of steps you can take."

Also:

20 INSUFFICIENT MEMORYThe printer received more data than can fit in available memory. You may be trying to print a document that is too complex for the printer's capacity (too many macros, soft fonts, or graphics). Pressing GO may print the transferred data, but data may be missing or skewed.  If the file size of the print job exceeds printer's onboard memory capacity, try adding more memory. Sometimes mismatched software drivers over-inflate the size of a document and cause these errors; you may want to download/install a different driver. If all else fails, simplify the print job and print manageable segments at a time.

I am not an HP employee; just searching for helpful answers for queries on the forum.

A reply is greatly appreciated, if suggestions help or not, as the multitude of volunteers on the forums respond to lots of queries, which requires a great deal of time.  Good luck.

Many thanks to RichAnt for the plain English, helpful info.  I do appreciate this well designed, well attended forum.

I must pass this info along for anyone else who has had my experience with the subject difficulty:

At the bottom of the Chrome  Print menu there is a rather obscure (or at least for me obscure) note that says "print using system dialog".  I had not noticed that instruction previously, but as a last resort I tried it.  From that action, I obtained the print of my spec; no Error, no re-direction, just a proper print job.  Who knew?

Thanks, Forum and company,  I'll be back...

Hello again Art,

Many thanks for the kind words, finest I've seen in a response.  If you don't mind a thumbs up beside my post as a KUDOS is also helpful.

Also, you have given your gracions blessing on these HP forums.  Hopefully a solution can be found.  On occasion, others are somewhat offensive with their thoughts.  These forums are monitored by volunteers, many of the "Expert" users spend hours with their assistance.  Thanks again.

I don't use Chrome, but Google asks me all the time to sign up.

Best of luck.
