I need instruktions for a factory reset. I’ve tried the other tricks and it might work for one print but then goes back to error79. I got the impression it came after the last update, about a week ago.

Hello,

Below are the steps that you need to follow in the order as mentioned ...
1. Disconnect the printer from the NETWORK
        a. If on wired network : Unplug the Ethernet cable from back of the printer.
        b. If on wireless network : Power of the Wireless router.
2. Turn off the printer.
3. Wait for 30 seconds.

4. Turn on the printer.

5. When the printer is in READY state, lets disable the Auto Update feature using the below steps.
      a. On printer display go to

Setting -> Services ->LaserJet Update -> Manage Updates -> Check Automatically -> set to Off.
6. Now you may go ahead and connect the printer to the network. It should work now.

It still doesn't work. I now get an Service Error 49 message before it restarts and comes back into the 79 error again. It now doesn't print at all, no pages. So different but not better.

Try the below steps....

  1. Power off the printer.

  8. Now try printing.
  9. Now Power on the Wireless Router / plug in the Ethernet cable to have the printer on network.

Both of those settings were already off! Simple text printouts like mail worked (at least twice) but trying to print a 16-page PDF it returned to the Service error 79. No 49 this time. Any other tricks?

I think it has to do with the latest firmware update that basically bricks your printer!

See my post:

Lots of people are experiencing the same problems. Hope HP addresses the issue soon.

I had the same problem.

A factory reset holding by holding my finger on a quadrant of the display while booting helped.

Also disabled ipv6
