It's actually crazy that they bricked all these printers and aren't addressing it. I wonder if I have any contacts at HP. I'm going to look.

I believe it’s firmware and still unsure if the replacement will actually work.

i had been printing no problem Saturday with a genuine toner. Sunday I noticed my printer flashing the error and my computer announcing an update had been completed.

i really doubt the printer hardware is at fault

ill be looking at another brand shortly as I can’t run my business very well without it

I review products for BestBuy and have an internal contact at HP that I just emailed. I'm hoping maybe they can bring attention to the issue and get us some help. Since the web interface is still functional, I believe they could push out a new firmware that would fix this.

Cool, let us know! If this is purely a firmware issue - they can simply push out the previous version and just rename it to the current date, etc.

But I already put my unit in the basement. The only reason I'd update it is to give it to someone else to use. Otherwise I'd have to find a way to dispose of it that isn't against electronics recycling laws. Maybe I can leave it on HP's front door and they can take care of the e-waste.

What were your steps on WhatsApp to get through to support?  HP won’t let me register my refurbished M234sdw for some reason, so I can’t request a replacement.

HP Recommended

It was just messaging this WhatsApp number +353 1 582 2932

the only available contact I could see was an automated chat bot and this number to message

Has anyone managed to get a response from HP yet? I still can't get anywhere and it seems impossible to find a contact number or email address. I tried the automated support and it was useless

No.  It’s really frustrating.  Registration doesn’t work for my printer to even know if online support is helpful.  HP wants us to purchase  support in order to learn about their error with the firmware update, unless that is intentional because the cartridge I bought from HP’s shop on Amazon is fake and they wanted to block it from working.  Is anyone having this problem with a non-refurbished printer?

HP Recommended

I am having this problem with a genuine HP printer (haha) and the original toner cartridge it came with.

The more I think about this - the more it bugs me. Because it is something that HP did (the firmware update) that caused the printers to stop functioning. And even if just a few people had to go out and buy a new printer to get important documents printed (i.e., tax forms) - then HP should compensate.

Yes - things break - and are not guaranteed to work 100% of the time. But this is a different animal. Not a mechanical failure. It was 100% preventable.

It's definitely time for some new players to enter the printer market somehow. There has to be a way.

Same experience: a brand new original cartridge stopped working with Error 11 a few days ago on my M234dwe.

I spen hours trying to clean, reinstall, test. From HP no message or suggestion on the origin of the problem and/or how to mitigate it.
