We turned off our printer prior to visiting family for the summer. After 3 months, when I turned on the printer (Officejet Pro 8610) I get the message - The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed. Error Code Oxc19a0023.
I have turned off the printer, unplugged it, plugged it in again, and turned it back on. Only to get this same message. I don’t know what this is, how to find it, or how to fix it.
When we retired 15 years ago, we got rid of our laptop and only use IPads and mobile phones. The printer was set up by one of our sons as a wireless printer. This being said, we have limited resources and old brains.
I would appreciate help addressing this printer issue so that I don’t have to purchase a new printer and wait for my son to install it.
Thanks, Jeri

Hi @Franknjer,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error message you're receiving on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer, "The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed. Error Code Oxc19a0023," suggests an issue with the printhead or the connections to it.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve this problem:
Reinstall the Printhead:
- Turn off your printer.
- Open the printer cover to access the printhead.
- Remove the printhead from its slot by pressing the release latch.
- Carefully clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.
- Reinsert the printhead and make sure it's securely locked in place.
- Close the printer cover.
Check for Obstructions: Sometimes, foreign objects or debris can block the printhead's movement. Ensure there are no obstructions in the printhead's path.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and wait for about a minute.
- Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.
Update Firmware: Make sure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. You can visit the HP website to find and install the latest firmware for your printer model.
Clean the Cartridges:
- If you are still facing issues, try cleaning the ink cartridges.
- Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.
- Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and in the printer with a lint-free cloth.
- Reinstall the cartridges.
Before attempting any of these steps, ensure that you have replacement ink cartridges on hand in case you need to replace them, as sometimes cartridge issues can also trigger this type of error. Additionally, be cautious while handling and cleaning the printhead and other printer components to avoid any damage.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
