HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Recently, I purchased a new iMAC desktop.  My HP Officejet Pro 8600 Preimum printer is working fine, however, my scanner now won't work.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software.  I am now able to scan via my computer, but I am unable to scan from my printer.  I receive an error stating "You do not have permission to open the application HP Scanner 2."   Second error - "Scan Failed".

Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

@LAMartin, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to scan from the printer screen to the Mac. Let us try these steps:

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Perform the steps mentioned in this document - 'You do not have permission to open the application' when using a scanner on Mac

Also, make sure the 'scan to computer' option is enabled on the HP utiltiy.

  • Click Go in the top menu bar > Applications, double-click the HP folder, then double-click HP Utility, Highlight your printer at the left pane.
  • Click All Settings, click Scan to Computer at the bottom, then check the box next to Enable Scan to Computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
