@LaxMommy, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The printer is displaying a generic "E" error code, which typically indicates a general error or attention required. This is common on HP DeskJet, ENVY, or similar models with a basic display.
Here’s how to troubleshoot and resolve it:
Check for Paper Jam or Obstruction
- Open the input and output trays.
- Look inside the printer for any jammed paper or foreign objects.
- Remove any debris carefully.

Check Ink Cartridges
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Ensure cartridges are properly installed and seated.
- If flashing lights are near the cartridge icons, one may be empty or incorrectly installed.
Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Reset the Printer
If the error persists:
- Disconnect power while the printer is on.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Reconnect and power on.
Check for Firmware Updates
- Use the HP Smart app or go to HP’s support site to check for updates.
