HP DeskJet 2742e All-in-One Printer

My printer has not been working, I have replaced all the ink, and reset it multiple times, but the i or error light is blinking orange. What can I do to fix it?

Hi @Ashleyschmer,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When the i or error light on your HP Deskjet 2742e All-In-One Printer blinks orange, it typically indicates that there is an issue that needs attention. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem.

  • Check for paper jams: Open the printer's access door and check for any paper jams. If you find any, carefully remove the jammed paper.
  • Ensure cartridges are installed correctly: Make sure that the ink cartridges are properly installed in their respective slots. Ensure they are securely snapped into place.
  • Verify ink cartridges: Even though you've replaced the ink, it's worth double-checking to ensure that the cartridges are compatible with your printer model and correctly installed.
  • Clean cartridge contacts: Sometimes, ink residue or debris can accumulate on the cartridge contacts. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to clean the contacts gently. Be careful not to touch the nozzles or copper-colored contacts.
  • Reset the printer: Perform a power reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it from the power source, waiting for about 60 seconds, and then plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Check for firmware updates: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website.
  • Inspect for hardware issues: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there might be a hardware problem with the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
