I have researched this problem but my situation is slightly different than others so I am reaching out for help.
When trying to print I get the error message "Paper Jam." There is no paper jam. When I click OK, I get the message:
"Printer Failure 0x61000047 - There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn the printer off, then on. If you continue to get this message, contact HP." I have tried the following suggestions I have found here in the Community HP website.
I did a hard reset by unplugging both ends of the cord, waiting at least 60 seconds and plugging back into the wall. The printer started up automatically.
Next, I attempted to remove and reinstall the ink cartridges but the carriage did not move when I opened the printer and it was unmovable by hand. I couldn’t reach the cartridges and didn’t want to force the carriage.
I didn’t download any drivers because I am in the Instant Ink program and so can’t.
Finally, it now happens that even when I use the power button to turn the printer on and off I get a message that the printer was turned off improperly and not using the power button could cause damage and should be used in the future.
Any advice?

Hi! @FarmGirl4,
Do you see any paper jammed on the printer?
Please try the steps recommended below.
Perform a power reset
Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.
Make sure the carriage can move freely
Make sure the carriage moves freely across the width of the printer.
note:
You might need a flashlight to complete some of these steps.
Figure : Flashlight
-
Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
-
Open the cartridge access door.
Figure : Opening the ink cartridge access door
-
Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
-
Unplug the power cord from the power source or electrical outlet.
warning:
You must unplug the power cord to move the carriage by hand and reset the paper feed mechanism without the risk of electrical shock.
-
Use a flashlight to check for any paper or objects that might be restricting the carriage, and then remove any paper or objects that you find.
caution:
If the paper tears when you remove it from the rollers, check the rollers and wheels for torn pieces of paper that might remain inside the printer. If pieces of paper remain in the printer, more paper jams can occur.
-
Reach inside the printer through the ink cartridge access door, and then manually move the carriage.
-
If the carriage is stuck on the right side of the printer, move the carriage to the left side of the printer.
-
If the carriage is stuck on the left side of the printer, move the carriage to the right side of the printer.
-
If the carriage is stuck in the middle of the printer, move the carriage to the right side of the printer.
-
-
Remove any loose paper or obstructions found.
-
Make sure that the carriage can move freely across the width of the printer. Firmly push the carriage to the left side of the printer, and then push it to the right side.
-
Close the ink cartridge access door.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
-
Plug the power cord back into the power source or electrical outlet.
-
Turn on the printer.
Try to print. If the error persists, continue to the next step.

Apollo,
While your answer addresses the general question of the error message quite thoroughly, it looks as if you didn't read my message at all.
There is NO paper jam.
I did a hard reset already.
It appears that my ink carriage isn't moving
I brought up an additional problem of my power button being used yet my printer responding as if I had unplugged it and you didn't address that.
So, your response was of no help to me personally. I further researched my problem and have found that I need to have my printer serviced.
Wish hp Support had a human being that I could have spoken to directly which would have saved me about an hour and a half of research time and would have taken only about 5 minutes to solve.

There is nothing much we can do in this situation as it is a hardware issue with the printer.
And as the parts on an HP printer are not customer accessible, so there is not much troubleshooting available.

Apollo,
Once again you didn’t read my post.
I have already solved my problem, myself, and the problem is a hardware problem.
Since reading customer’s posts is the best way to understand their problem, I would suggest that you change to a system that uses that methodology in the future to better assist HP customers.
