HP Envy 4500e
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Installed new black ink cartridge, was instructed to print alignment page.  Printer froze in printing alignment page mode.  Nothing happened.  No other control button worked.  Now, after turning off , unplugging, etc., there is a repeating error code and nothing else functions.

@Markrenard, Welcome to HP Support Community!

What is the exact error message on the printer? You can share a picture of the same.

What happens when you remove the ink cartridges and power on the printer without ink?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Re-started without cartridges, then  loading them got rid of the error message AND allowed the alignment page to print.  That's progress!  However, after the alignment page printed, I put it in to scan, and the scanning message did come up, but nothing happened - just stuck on "Scanning alignment page..."  If I turn the machine off after a while, it will now print documents I send to it, but only after the "align now" message box pops up.  I have to click "not now" which then permits the printer to print my document.  a pain to have that box EACH TIME!  So, improved, but still not quite right.

Thanks for replying!

Follow steps 1 to 5 from the document HP Inkjet Printers - 'Alignment Unsuccessful' Error Message Displays.

Also, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates.

For more information, go to Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware.
