Hello everyone!

First off, I’d like to apologize for any mistakes in this text. I originally wrote it in German and used AI to translate it, so feedback on the translation quality is very welcome.

Now, regarding my problem: Without having changed any settings on the printer or the driver, I recently started getting the following error message on the printer every time I try to print a PDF: "Unable to print, file corrupted." The print job is then cancelled.

Sometimes, after resetting the printer or briefly unplugging it from the power source, I manage to print a single document. However, the error reoccurs immediately afterward. It doesn't matter which file I try to print or which software I use.

I encountered this problem once in the past, and the only thing that fixed it was completely uninstalling the printer and all drivers, then setting everything up from scratch. Since that is quite a hassle, I would really like to avoid doing it again.

I know other users are facing this issue as well, but I haven't been able to find a solution online, and unfortunately, HP Support hasn't been helpful either.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi @EikeBart,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this can be, especially when the printer worked fine before and now refuses to print any PDFs. HP recognizes this as a condition related to corrupted print jobs, driver software, or the PDF files themselves. Here’s a troubleshooting path:

Steps to Resolve “Unable to Print, File Corrupted” on PDF

1. Update Printer Driver & Software

  • Visit the HP Support site for your printer model and download the Full Feature Software & Driver package.
This ensures proper handling of PDF files.
  • Install the driver, reboot your PC, and retry printing.

2. Test with a New or Different PDF

  • Open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader or another viewer.
  • Use “Save As…” or “Print to PDF” to create a fresh copy, then try printing again.

3. Use “Print as Image” in Adobe Acrobat

  • In the Print dialog, select Advanced → check Print as Image → print.
This converts the file into a straightforward graphics format before sending it to the printer.

4. Try a Different PDF Viewer

  • Some viewers introduce incompatibilities.
  • Download or update Adobe Acrobat Reader and print using it directly.

5. Clear Print Spooler & Set Direct to Printer

  • On Windows:
    1. Go to Devices & Printers → right-click your printer → Printer properties.
    2. Under Advanced, choose Print directly to the printer, then click Apply.
  • Also, cancel all pending print jobs and restart the Print Spooler service.

6. Power-Cycle Printer & Clear Errors

  • Turn off the printer, unplug the power for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Reprint the PDF to see if the issue temporarily resolves, as you mentioned it sometimes does.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
