Hi @lThekingomar ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP LaserJet M234sdw printer is not turning on and displaying an RD error, updating the firmware might not be possible in its current state. However, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Troubleshooting Steps

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Try turning on the printer.

Check the Power Source

  • Ensure that the power outlet is working by plugging in another device to verify.
  • Use a different power outlet to rule out any issues with the current one.

Reset the Printer

  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Release the power button and reconnect the power cord.
  • Try turning on the printer again.

Inspect for Physical Damage

  • Check for any visible signs of damage to the power cord, power socket, or the printer itself.

Use a Different Power Cord

  • If possible, use a power cord from another compatible HP printer to see if the power cord is the issue.

Check for Firmware Recovery Options

  • Some HP printers have a firmware recovery mode. Check the HP support site for your specific printer model to see if there are instructions for entering firmware recovery mode.

Firmware Update (If Printer Powers On) Update the firmware on an HP printer

If you manage to get the printer to turn on, you can update the firmware by following these steps:

Download the Firmware

  • Go to the HP Support website.
  • Enter your printer model (HP LaserJet M234sdw) and search for firmware updates.
  • Download the latest firmware update file.

Install the Firmware

  • Follow the instructions provided on the HP website to install the firmware update.

Just a copy - paste from another post, clearly doesn't help.
