I have an HP Smart Tank 530 series printer. When I print or copy, it starts printing, but suddenly stops, giving me the following message: "Printer Failure: There is a problem with the printer or the printing system.".

I need help to find out what is causing this failure.

Hi @leo-210102,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The error message "Printer Failure: There is a problem with the printer or the printing system" on your HP Smart Tank 530 series printer typically indicates a hardware or ink system issue, often related to the ink supply unitpriming system, or sensor errors.

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall and the printer.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn the printer on.

2. Check if the Printer is Level

  • Place a small round object (like a marble or pen) on top of the printer.
  • If it rolls, the printer is not level.
  • Adjust the surface or printer feet until the object stays still.

An unlevel printer can cause air bubbles or froth in the ink supply, triggering this error

3. Inspect the Ink Supply

  • Open the ink access area.
  • Check for:
    • Low or empty ink tanks
    • Air bubbles in the ink lines
    • Loose or improperly seated printheads
  • Refill the ink if needed and reseat the printheads.

4. Try Accessing the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • If the printer is connected to the network, enter its IP address in a browser.
  • If accessible, check for firmware updates or error logs.

5. Replace Ink Supplies (if needed)

  • If any ink supply or printhead is flagged as faulty, replace it with a new one.

Use only genuine HP ink to avoid compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
