Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
MKazi is at your service.
I understand that you have an HP OfficeJet 3831 All-in-One Printer and it display an error code 0x0328C2ED SM_Module C. Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- Did any hardware changes take place on the printer prior to this issue (ink cartridge replacement, paper jam, etc.)?
- Were there any software changes or update for the printer (like a firmware update)?
- Does the error appear on the printer or the computer screen?
- Are you using original HO ink cartridges or refilled ink?
While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
- Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
If the error still appears then remove the ink cartridges out and check if the printer displays the missing ink cartridge error. If the missing ink cartridge error appears then insert once cartridge at a time and check for which cartridge the "0x0328C2ED SM_Module C" error appears.
Secondly, you may download and install the firmware update for the printer via this HP link.
NOTE: The printer needs to be restarted after the firmware is successfully installed.
I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Feel free to let me know how it goes.
All the best! 🙂

Hello MKazi,
Thank you for the solution < I did get a second error code although don't know where I wrote it down.
Anyway back to my printer I resolved the problem myself I had changeg my router two days before and hadn't used my printer until the Saturday when it refused to play !, I realised the problem was wireless so killed the wireless setup and reverted to USB to my suprise it started to print something that was in its buffers, it printed ok except some of it should have been in colour so I used the cleaning aspect for the print heads, that got things printing again.
Just to satisfy myself I changed the router back even though everything else seemed to be ok with the wireless signal? When I changed the router and entered the password the printer locked on and has stayed on since (on the other router it would connect and then drop the connection after a few seconds.
I have now requested a replacement router from BT.
Thank's again for you help with this problem.
Regards
