OfficeJet Pro 6978 indicated it had been shut down improperly and would not function. I was instructed to remove a nonexistent paper jam. The paper tray and all accesses were checked and closed properly. It then indicated a problem with the printer and displayed code 0x6100004a. I followed instructions to remove and clean cartridges, unplug all cables, including from the wall. Error message persists. Software is up to date. Printer was not in use when error first occurred, but it did coincide with the day HP notified me they were shipping me ink through HP Instant Ink. I notice many other posts about the same thing in the same time frame. Was there a glitchy automatic software update? I am not able to get the printer to copy or print. The screen is stuck in “cartridge problem.” Please help.

As this is a hardware issue, I'd suggest you contact HP support in your region regarding the service options for your printer
Follow the instructions below to reach them:
1) Click on this link - https://www.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html
2) Select your product type below.
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.
6)Fill the web-form and proceed further.
If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
