Officejet 3830

My Officejet 3830 regularly generates error code 0xb9808bfc. To fully restore print capability I must remove power cord from outlet AND reset the Wi-Fi router. More details:
- Error can happen while printing via Wi-Fi network or Wi-Fi Direct connect however nearly 100% of occurrence is while using Wi-Fi network.
- I can intentionally cause the error by printing via Wi-Fi Direct and disconnecting from printer Wi-Fi prior to printing complete.
- Power cycle via printer power button clears the error but will not reconnect with Wi-Fi until power cord unplugged but in this case it connects briefly with Wi-Fi network then disconnects after short period.

- to restore printing and network connection I must recycle power and restart the Wi-Fi router.
- Not 100% sure but I strongly believe the error can occur when not printing because I frequently notice the error condition on screen when there has been no known attempt to print.
- Printer worked perfectly until about 3 years ago when the error code started appearing.
- I believe we don’t have this error when printing via usb cable but I’m not 100% sure.

This is very frustrating! Please tell me detailed cause of error and what I should do to solve.

Thanks Irwin6 for the feedback. I had previously performed the procedure you mentioned based on previous posts and firmware is current. I discovered that my network settings were set to IPV6 and the error seems related to networking so I’ve changed settings to IPV4. It is too soon to judge but so far no more errors.

Hi @DAC10,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your printer.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
