I have HP Office Jet Pro 7740.  Bought it new many years ago & it's been a great printer.  It is now showing error code B80CD5A4.  What does that mean & how to fix it?

The error code B80CD5A4 on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer is a critical system error that typically indicates a firmware or hardware fault often related to the printhead, ink system, or internal electronics.
 

Here’s how to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Perform a Full Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer back on.


2. Use HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

HP recommends using the Diagnose & Fix feature in the HP Smart app for Windows:


3. Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can trigger system errors:

  • On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.
  • Or use HP Smart to check for updates.


4. Check for Ink System Issues

  • Remove all cartridges and inspect for leaks or damage.
  • Reinsert cartridges firmly.
  • If you have a spare set of genuine HP cartridges, try swapping them in.
