HP ENVY 6000 has an error code E0 — after I discontinued Instant Ink — and replaced an ink cartridge with an approved HP cartridge. I can’t believe that HP forces enrollment in Instant Ink in order for the printer to work?
I’m reading similar examples in other posts. Is the only way to get rid of the error to re enroll?!?

Hi @KN58,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code E0 on your HP ENVY 6000 printer typically indicates an issue related to the ink cartridges, especially if you recently discontinued the Instant Ink service and replaced a cartridge.
HP printers enrolled in the Instant Ink program often use special "Instant Ink" cartridges, which are tied to the subscription. When you cancel the subscription, these cartridges are no longer valid, and you must replace them with standard HP cartridges.
Here are a few steps you can take to resolve the issue.
Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure that the cartridges you installed are genuine HP cartridges and not leftover Instant Ink cartridges. Instant Ink cartridges won’t work after the subscription is canceled.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source for about 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Reinstall the Cartridges:
- Open the cartridge door and remove the cartridges.
- Inspect them for any protective tape that may not have been removed.
- Reinsert the cartridges securely and close the door.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel.
Factory Reset:
- As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the printer. This may remove any settings related to Instant Ink and allow you to start fresh with standard cartridges. Be sure to back up any important settings before doing this.
HP does not force enrollment in Instant Ink for the printer to work, but using Instant Ink cartridges without an active subscription will cause errors. After canceling Instant Ink, make sure only to use standard HP cartridges moving forward.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
