Hi @Beth092879,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you aregetting the E5 error code on the HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer typically indicates a problem with the ink cartridges, such as a compatibility issue, a damaged cartridge, or an improperly installed cartridge. Here's how to troubleshoot the issue:

Steps to Resolve E5 Error

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for 2–3 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Inspect both cartridges (black and tri-color) for any visible damage, leaks, or debris on the contacts.
  • Ensure the cartridges are genuine HP products compatible with the ENVY 6055e.

Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Remove the cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the cartridge slot.
  • Let the contacts dry for 2–3 minutes before reinserting.

Reinstall the Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure each cartridge clicks into place securely.
  • Close the access door.

Update the Printer Firmware

  • If the printer is operational after reinstalling the cartridges, update its firmware using the HP Smart app. Firmware updates often resolve hardware glitches.

Perform a Printer Reset

  • Press and hold the Cancel (X) and Wireless buttons on the printer for about 10 seconds.
  • Release the buttons when the printer restarts.

Replace the Problematic Cartridge

  • If the issue persists and the error specifically points to one cartridge, replace it with a new genuine HP cartridge.

I hope this helps.
