Hi @MiwokNdn,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Error message number 6 on an HP Envy 6400e All-in-One Printer typically indicates an issue related to the printer hardware or a specific component malfunction. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Restart the Printer

Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Paper Jams

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions.
  • Remove any stuck paper carefully without tearing it.

Inspect the Cartridges

  • Make sure the cartridges are properly installed.
  • Remove the cartridges and reinsert them to ensure they are seated correctly.
  • Check for any protective tape that might still be on the cartridges.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date.
  • You can update the firmware through the HP Smart app:
    • Open the HP Smart app.
    • Go to the printer settings.
    • Check for firmware updates and install any available updates.

Check the Printer Connection

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer or mobile device.
  • If using a wireless connection, make sure the Wi-Fi signal is strong and stable.

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor

HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can diagnose and fix many printing issues.

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP Support website.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to detect and fix issues.

Reinstall Printer Drivers

Sometimes reinstalling the printer drivers can help.

  • Uninstall the current printer drivers from your computer.
  • Download the latest drivers from the HP website for your printer model.
  • Install the new drivers and try printing again.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and fix the issue preventing your HP Envy 6400e from printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
