Hi @Wallis13

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 6950 All-in-One is displaying an error message stating it was "not shut down correctly" and is unable to shut down properly, this issue could be caused by a variety of factors including software glitches, power issues, or internal printer errors. Here are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and fix the problem:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

A hard reset can often resolve many printer issues by forcing the printer to restart completely.

Steps to perform a hard reset:

  1. Turn off the printer using the power button.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer and from the electrical outlet.
  3. Wait for at least 30 seconds to 1 minute to allow the printer's internal memory to clear.
  4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

This can sometimes resolve the issue by allowing the printer to reset its internal state.

2. Check for Paper Jams

A paper jam or obstruction inside the printer can prevent the printer from shutting down properly.

Steps to check for paper jams:

  1. Open the printer cover and inspect the paper path for any obstructions or pieces of paper that may have become lodged.
  2. Remove any stuck paper carefully, ensuring you don't tear it inside the printer.
  3. Check the paper feed rollers to make sure they are not jammed or stuck.

Once you've cleared any jams, try shutting down the printer again.

3. Update the Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause unexpected behavior, including shutdown problems. Make sure your printer's firmware is up-to-date.

Steps to update the firmware:

  1. Visit the HP Support website: Go to HP’s support page for the OfficeJet 6950.
  2. Download the latest firmware for your printer.
  3. Install the firmware according to the instructions provided. This usually involves connecting your printer to your computer via USB or Wi-Fi.
  4. After the firmware update, try shutting down the printer again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
