I have two PDF files that I have been trying to print on my printer. However, when I try to print them I get the following message: PCL XL Error
Subsystem: iP
Error: InsufficientMemory
Other PDF files that I have printed have printed fine with no issues.

Clear Printer Queue
Clear any pending print jobs from the printer queue to free up memory:
- Open the printer queue from your computer’s settings.
- Cancel all pending jobs.
- Restart the printer.
Restart Printer
Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can help reset the printer's memory.
Convert to Another Format
Convert the PDF to another format (e.g., JPEG or PNG) and then try printing the converted file.
By trying these steps, you should be able to resolve the "PCL XL Error" and successfully print your PDF files.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @crazydadof4,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "PCL XL Error" with an "InsufficientMemory" message typically occurs when the printer runs out of memory while trying to process the print job. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue.
Simplify the PDF File
Try simplifying the PDF file by reducing its size. You can use PDF editing tools to:
- Compress the PDF.
- Reduce the resolution of images.
- Remove unnecessary elements.
Print as Image
Printing the PDF as an image can sometimes bypass memory issues.
- Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Go to the Print dialog box.
- Click on the "Advanced" button.
- Check the "Print as Image" option.
- Click OK and then print.
Update Printer Firmware and Drivers
Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. You can find the latest firmware and driver updates on the HP Support website.
Increase Printer Memory
If your printer allows for memory upgrades, consider adding more memory to handle larger print jobs.
Use a Different PDF Viewer
Sometimes, the PDF viewer can be the issue. Try using a different PDF viewer to print the files.
Print in Smaller Batches
If the PDF is very large, try printing it in smaller batches or pages to reduce the memory load.
Adjust Print Settings
- In the Print dialog, go to "Properties" or "Preferences".
- Change the "Print Quality" to a lower setting.
- Disable any advanced printing features that might require more memory.
